Working in Nikiski
Nikiski runs north up the Kenai Spur Highway above Kenai, strung out along the road and the inlet rather than gathered into a centre. Housing is spread thin across big lots, with a lot of shop buildings, cabins and owner built additions in among the year round homes.
Nikiski is a shift work town, which changes how a job has to run. Somebody on a rotation is not home to answer questions in the middle of the afternoon, so the scope gets settled up front and the work carries on without a decision waiting on a phone call.
